Excuses

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off all extra weight, especially the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Hebrews 12:1 NLT.

Hebrews 12:1 has been running through my head for quite a few months now. Like I said yesterday, I'm the queen of excuses. I can come up with a million excuses not to clean the kitchen..

I cleaned it yesterday

I'm tired

I have a headache

It's my husbands turn

They made the mess they should clean it up (even though "they" might not be home at the moment but "I" am, and it's only bothering "me")

I can come up with a million excuses not to exercise...

I'm tired

No one will do it with me

I'm just going to fail so why even try

It's almost November then winter will be here then what, so why even start when I'm going to have to quit soon anyway (yeah that's where I'm at off and on lately, except now I figured out how to get my 2 and 3 year old involved and we run together haha whatever works right?)

What about with following God?

Abraham and Sarah, were told to do something so outrageous..so out in left field so completely out of their comfort zone by God. But you know what? They did it. Oh to have faith like Abraham.

What kind of excuses can  you come up with for not to follow God and His prompting?

I'm too old - Abraham was in his 80's/90's

What if that wasn't God? - Would the thing go against His will? Would it make Him smile? Has someone in the Bible stepped out in a similar way, in which you're wrestling with now?

I fail at everything I do so why even start? - Dare I say maybe the reason you've failed in the past is because you've relied on your strength instead of Gods? Or maybe it wasn't God calling you to do it, maybe it was so YOU could get the glory for yourself?

I will make people mad with my choices -

For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. Mat 16:25

Hmm Jesus says if you want to save your life your life you will lose it...but if you lose your life for His sake you will find it...meaning if everyone you know disowns you because you're following hard after God then you are doing the RIGHT thing...you are doing the GOD thing and in the grand scheme of things and in eternity it won't matter who stuck with you and who didn't you will be closer to God and be going through a most amazing experience because you chose God's approval over the approval of man (or woman)

What other excuses can you come up with?

When God told Sarah she was going to have a baby she laughed, she tried to help by offering her maid servant to Abraham and she probably questioned in the many years until her baby came BUT even in the doubts their faith held strong and they chose God.

Is God asking you to do something so outrageous, so out in left field, so against the world and it's view ~ that all you've been offering Him is excuses? Maybe it's time to throw off all excuses and the sin that hinders you from fulfilling your purpose and just go for it.

If God is asking you to do something, and  all you've given Him is excuses I want to pray for you. He loves you so much and the things He's asking you to do are gifts. The gift of an amazing adventure, the gift of growth and the gift of new strong faith to rely on Him. If you would like prayer please contact me at mandysnyder2@yahoo.com and I will pray for you. It's time to throw off all that hinders and run with perseverance the race He's set for you.

Great encouragement, Mandy! God is bigger than all our excuses. He doesn't need us to have the ability, just the availability.

I can make excuses too. I want to persevere and with Him, I can.

It's easy to get caught up in excuses. Fear of more failure is a big one for me too. Perseverance isn't without failure it's pushing through the failure and realizing my strength is nothing if not fueled by Him. Great encouragement Mandy, thank you!

We're all so good at making excuses why we can't/shouldn't/won't do things, aren't we? We need to be very diligent in listening so that even when God asks us to do something completely "outside the box", we answer Yes Lord! and not make excuses.

Have a Blessed Day Mandy!

Yep, excuses keep us stuck in a place for longer than we need to be. God desires to offer us so much more. We need to step out and trust Him for the strength and the courage. Great post Mandy!

This is wonderful Mandy! Boy I have said all the same things you listed. I have even given excuses to God. But God knows every excuse in the book even before we give it. God I pray that I will praise you instead of giving excuses. I pray that I will say "yes" to you whenever you call!:)
