Our Words

Sometimes...ok most of the time I just say what I think. If someone does something or says something that I consider to be wrong I tell them exactly what's on my mind. I don't have a lot of tact.

I never ever say anything to purposely hurt anyone but I wonder how many times my words have hurt someone.

I was reading in Proverbs yesterday, Here's just a few things God has to say about controlling our words.

An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up. Proverbs 12:25
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1
The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. Proverbs 15:2
The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.
Proverbs 15:4
The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a foll feeds on folly. Proverbs 15:14
A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel. Proverbs 15:18

There are soooo many scriptures regarding our words, these are just a few. God spoke the earth into existence, Jesus spoke Nazareth back from the dead. Our words can build someone up or tear someone down. They can spread hope and encouragement or fear and hurt.
Our words have so much power, Jesus said our tongue is the hardest body part to tame, that means we are going to have to work at it and it's going to be difficult. (James 3)

If it were easy, it wouldn't be worth doing, right?

The heart of the righteous weighs its answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil.
Proverbs 15:28

I want my words to be few, and we I do need to speak, I want to speak life and encouragement. I really need to work on this. Thanks for the reminder!

I love what James says, everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. I want to listen more than I speak, and let my words be few.

This is so true. Our words can sometimes be like weapons and swords that we don't necessarily mean to use. As soon as those words roll off our tongues, someone's life can be altered forever, wwhether thats good or bad. I pray Lord that YOU will always be the author of my words. That your words will be my words. To build up not to tear down....

I've always been told that I have no tact! Mom says that I could say the same thing in a better way so as to not hurt someone's feelings. So...that being said...I try. I admit, I fail...miserably. But, try, I will. I would never want to hurt someone on purpose or on accident. Thank you for the Scriptures and reminder to watch my words!

I've learned about the power of words the hard way. I say things before I think about them and have gotten in trouble on more than one occassion!
