Running a Marathon

Then Jesus said "Come to me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

Praise God, I was finally able to rest last night. I have been sleeping, but never really resting. Something happened last night and I felt very sick and uncomfortable and I heard "rest" in my heart, so I layed on the couch for most of the night and I feel refreshed and alert today.

A few weeks ago I wrote about the inbetween times, about how sometimes we may feel like we are just making it, no purpose, no reason...just alive. God showed me today that those are some of the most important times in our lives. It's a time when everything is quiet, slow and uneventful.

Our people should learn to spend their time doing something useful and worthwhile.
Titus 3:14 CEV

We are all running a marathon. The inbetween times are times to be used for rest and training. Training means reading your Bible, going deeper in the Word, doing devotionals or a book study. Listening to teachings on CD, learning all you can about walking with God, no matter how mature your walk is, we never truly know everything. We all have to do training for our races.

When it is our turn to "race" then the training pays off, we run, we persevere, because we know joy comes in the end. we know God has something special planned for those who remain faithful, who persevere to the end, and sometimes, because God has shown us this secret, we can even have joy in the midst of the race.

You need to persevere, so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised. Hebrews 10:36

But we are not those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved. Hebrews 10:39

When you get tired in your race, keep your eyes on Jesus, He promises to be there right next to you helping if you let Him.

Amen and Amen! I love this! We have to keep our eyes on the prize - eternity with Jesus!

Love this verse...I wrote a 'paper' on it in high school to get accepted into the Governor's School that SC used to have. It's been a favorite ever since then (and that's been a long time)

I like this, "When it is our turn to "race" then the training pays off, we run, we persevere, because we know joy comes in the end." Yes, when we run the race sometimes we fall but we get back up, dust ourselves off and keep on keeping on! Nice post!;)
