Divine Appointments

I am a firm believer in divine appointments. God directs us exactly where He wants us each day. The challenge is recognizing these appointments - choosing to see them.

A couple of weeks ago my family went to a Christmas Play called Tribulation Christmas (google it, it's amazing) When my dad went to buy the tickets a few days before the play, God put on his heart to buy 8 tickets. When the day of the play came, we couldn't find anyone to take the 3 extra tickets - the couple dad was supposed to ask per God's instructions weren't at the Church Wednesday before the play. I asked everyone I could think of but everyone was busy. God kept telling me that my dad knew who to invite so finally in a round-about way we contacted this couple and they came with us! We still had 1 extra ticket but no takers, then as we were leaving town God told my dad to call my sister and sure enough she was off and said she would come too! She never EVER has off Friday nights.

This was a divine appointment for all 8 of us and we were greatly blessed by the experience even if my husband, my mom and my sister don't realize it - or choose to see it.

So you are probably wondering why I'm telling you this...

This morning I had another divine appointment and I messed it up. I was speaking with a family friend of several years and she asked me how my husband was doing. (She's not saved - that I know of) If it was anyone else I know I would have talked about what God has done for my husband. More often than not, I don't think before I speak and I left God out of the conversation today. After she left I instantly felt sick - I missed a blatant opportunity to witness. I let God down....I used the word "somehow" instead of "God"...what is wrong with me?!

How often do we miss these opportunities or just choose not to see them. I think most of the time for me anyway, I choose not to see what God puts right in front of me because of my pride. I say I want more God but do I? Am I too comfortable? The answer is yes to both of those questions.

I'm done being comfortable. I never want to miss another of these appointments again.

I'm so sorry father, please forgive me.

The fact that you see where you missed the opportunity is such a big step!

I don't want to be so comfortable that I miss His divine appointments either! God, shake me up! Help me to put my pride and shyness behind me and step out for You!

Thank you for this post!

I love the phrase "Divine Appointments"... I think we all have many of these throughout our day, and just may not realize it at the time. The more we open our hearts to Him, the more our "Appointment Book" gets filled up with wonderful opportunities! Thank you for sharing this with us, and have a Blessed Day!

Mandy, remember baby steps. Like Jenifer said, you realize you missed an opportunity, and that's growth. Maybe God will give you an opportunity to talk to her again and this time you'll be ready to share God.
I want to keep my eyes open for those appointments too. Gotta get my eyes off me.

I think we become afraid that we're going to turn a non-believer off of God if we speak of Him to boldly. And really we worry over something that has nothing to do with us anyway, HE opens ears to hear. So, in reality we are better off just being ourselves and talking like we would with a believer. Its who we are anyway, right? The best thing about missed opportunities is that they cause to us to get better about seeing them! I can't wait to hear about your next divine appointment :)

I think I've missed many opportunities when telling people about Sam and his cerebral palsy. It's like I don't realize it until it's too late or I hear my husband telling someone. But at least you realize it and can be ready next time...

I feel all of us have missed those appointments but that should not stop us from keeping the next one when it comes around. I do pray God will put that friend in another situation where you will be able to witness to her. I really enjoyed your post, so much truth in it. Have a blessed week.
